| I have written a lengthy page explaining about different character sets and encodings. It can be found here:

Covered are things like UTF-8, ISO-8859-1, single-byte character sets (SBCS), multi-byte character sets (MBCS) and wide character sets.
There are also some code charts to illustrate the differences between the various character sets. |
