Heidi's Quilt
Made in November, 1995.
Inspired by a pattern in the book "The Cat' s Meow" by Janet Kime (That Patchwork Place, 1994).
I love autumn tonings and sought out fabrics that gave this quilt an autumn feel. My cat Heidi spent most of her time rearranging the blocks whilst I tried to lay it out, then tried to help me quilt it! It was definitely her quilt, although she unfortunately died in February, 1996 at age 17.

In The Suburbs
Made in a workshop at Primarily Patchwork, Canterbury.
This quilt has special memories as I discovered I was pregnant with my first child during this class project, after many years of trying. I then started to worry about the effects on the baby of carting my sewing machine up and down Maling Road to the classes!

Ninepatch squared
I love the traditional nine patch block and found inspiration for this quilt in the book "Nine Patch", part of a series called The Classic American Quilt Collection, edited by Mary V. Green and published by Rodale Press Inc. 1994.
This was another opportunity to get scrap happy!

I spy 'J' for Jeremy
Made in 1999 for my son, Jeremy Gammon.
This is the first of many I Spy quilts I have made for my own children and the extended family. This brilliant patttern by Dianne Neumann and Tracey Scougall was printed in a A P&Q publication "Wonderful Quilts" in 1998.
I have used the original block design and tried to find as many novelty fabrics featuring motifs starting with "J". Great fun to make and I am still making them.

Floral Stars
This quilt was an opportunity to use up lots of floral scraps in my boxes and to try out the evening star pattern. In retrospect, I found this approach too limiting and would do it very differently now.
While I was piecing this quilt I discovered I was pregnant with twins and I have never been able to look at some of the fabrics without feeling some nausea!!! Not a favourite quilt ...

Scrappy Envelopes
I was determined to use all the contents of my scrap boxes for this envelope quilt, inspired by some quilts in "Fun with Fat Quarters" by Nancy J. Martin (That Patchwork Place, 1994) but I ended up with even more scraps!
This quilt took me ages to finish as I was hand quilting it at patchwork group meetings only. It now hangs outside my sewing room.

Autumn Feet
Made in May, 2001 for my husband, Nick Gammon.
I found a brilliant book that combined my love of scrap quilts with my desire to use bright bold colours. It is "Spectacular Scraps" by Judy Hooworth and Margaret Rolfe, published by That Patchwork Place, 1999.
Nick chose this pattern in orange and purple which look fantastic together. This quilt was great fun to make and is the first of several I have made from this book.

A Little Nostalgia
Made in July 2001 for my parents, Valerie and John Ingoldby.
My mother chose this quilt from an A P&Q publication 'Traditional Quilting", 1998. It is a Flower patch pattern using 1930's fabrics to create the pastel tones.
I was very pleased with the results as pastels aren't really my preferred colours. My parents now have it on their guest bed.

I Spy 'C' for Christopher
Made in December 2001 for Christopher Legge.
Chris is the stepson of my sister Margot and I made this quilt for him with a sporting theme. It took quite a while to collect the fabrics with most coming from the USA so there are quite a few sports featured which are very American, like baseball and ice hockey! Its a pity we don't produce more fabrics featuring our own sports like AFL and cricket.

My sister and her husband have a beach house at Anglesea on Victoria's Surf Coast and I adapted this quilt pattern from "Spectacular Scraps" by Judy Hooworth and Margaret Rolfe, published by That Patchwork Place, 1999. I chose light and dark tones of teal and aquamarine to provide the contrast.
It now hangs in the hallway of their beach house.

I purchased this pattern via mail order from Country Pieces in Carcoar, NSW, and adapted it to make a larger quilt. It was my first attempt at machine applique and worked out quite well. I had planned to tie it with buttons but this proved difficult and time consuming so I had it machine quilted.
This was a gift to my father in law.

Made in May 2004 for Tim Gammon.
This quilt was given to Tim, my brother in law, on the occasion of his 50th birthday in September 2004. He is a huge Volkswagon fan and has two at home, one of which is an old Beetle. His mother Marie still drives a Kombie which has been in the family for many years.
I sourced the fabric from the USA but the only version was a surfie spin on VWs, hence the flower power look!

Made in March 2006.
This wall hanging was commissioned by Priscilla Alderton for her new house. The pattern was inspired by a design in the book "Spectacular Scraps" by Rolfe and Hooworth and the colours complement those in two photograhs that will hang nearby. Priscilla was keen to highlight the hanging rod so the quilt will hang from tabs (made from the binding fabric) rather than a hanging sleeve.

French Pastorale
Made in December 2006 for Priscilla Alderton.
Priscilla commissioned another quilt for her new country house and selected the fabrics herself. She loves all things French and presented me with a bag of French furnishing fabric remnants purchased at a shop in Double Bay, Sydney! I used a favourite combination of the evening star and puss in the corner blocks as I had only small scrappy pieces to work with in the body of the quilt. The toile formed the centre of the stars and I saved the wonderful regency stripe for the borders and tabs.

In Praise of Warm Feet
Made in January 2018 for a friend.
I used the traditional broken dishes block for this quilt. It is a scrap quilt (of course!) but I tried to keep the colours fairly muted.
