MUSHclient swallows some characters

I am using MUSHclient 4.40 to play Achaea.
Some characters like '<' in <HTS>, @, # and % are swallowed and the following characters too. So I just see '>:' instead of '<HTS>:'.

Is there an option to show those characters?

Do you have MXP on? It may be assuming they are MXP tags.
