I tried to create my own area using the area editor. I then changed newacad.are to exit to the first area in my new area, then edited area.lst to add my area, then uploaded the 3 files to the server.
I restarted the server and when I tried to log on, I can't, but the list of running processes says that the program is running.
I have tried to connect through the MUSHclient and through the telnet program that comes with windows xp.
I deleted my area file, and changed the others back and it worked again. But after doing a check of the area file and changing the area.lst back, it won't work again, and setting things back to as before, it doesn't work again.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
There should be some server output - see what that says.
You don't need to delete the area file, simply remove it from the area.lst file.
Please specify which version of Smaug you are using.
I cannot view the server output when I run it on the server, but strangely enough, when I run it locally, I have gotten it to work, even with the area, but still not up on the server. And i believe I am running version 1.6.
Why not?
On the server, navigate to the area directory, and then type:
That should start it up and you will see any messages.
I am not really sure, I guess it is just the server that I use. I got SMAUG to run again on the server, but I had to delete everything, and re-upload the server and compile it on the server before it would work again. So I have no clue what started it, but if you can direct me to any tips on what could help in the future I would be very gracious. Other wise, thanks for the help.
Do you have an external server provider? You must have some sort of command access to be able to compile. How are you starting up the Smaug server?
I have an account on a server, I don't run if off of my computer if that is what you mean by external service provider. To start SMAUG, I log onto their website to get to my account, access their web version command prompt like environment, navigate to the src folder, then type ./startup 4040. All other commands show feed back like they should, but the start up turns the page blank, sometimes it would show the command, but neither when things worked or haven't worked, it hasn't shown any display like it does when run locally on my computer.
Quote:
access their web version command prompt like environment, navigate to the src folder, then type ...
OK. Stop there. At that point, type:
cd ../area
../src/smaug 4040
Now you should see stuff whizz by on the screen, showing you what is happening.
Ok, I tried that, and a few times it shows me what is going on, and some times it takes too long for the page to reload that the connection is reset while it is still trying to load the page.
You have lost me there. What page has to reload?
The place where I have my server has the only access to the shell through a web page. After I type in each command, the web page reloads and displays above the input box the results of the command I typed in.
OK, well the standard startup file, which you were using originally, writes a log to the log directory. Try editing the latest file there.
