after looking through 2 areas on for ROM and one for DoT, I noticed they appear the same (except for the header).

#AREADATA
Version 11
FromMUD Dawn1.7~
*parent_codebase 1.69h
Name Limbo~
ShortName ~
Builders None~
VNUMs 1 25
AFlags noteleport noscry hidden~
Security 9
Colour B~
MapScale 4
MapLevel 1
Vnum_offset 0
Continent none~
*LastSaved Fri Mar 09 21:26:07~
End

Compared to ROM

#AREA
city.are~
City~
Maon~
1200 1301

Is what I am seeing true?

if so then one can simply use ORB or "Area Editor" to make a DoT area and just change the header in a text editor to make it official?

Dawn uses wordflags instead of ABCDEF... for flags in areas, this makes areas more portable in the future when a lot of muds have different usage for each bit flag.

e.g.

#MOBILES
#3000
Name laborer~
ShortD a laborer~
LongD A laborer is here, trying to get his work done.
~
Desc This human is very large and muscular. He is dressed in workman's clothes
and has some tools hanging on his belt. He is busy at the moment trying to
get his work done as quickly as possible.
~
Race human~
Align 1 2
Level 5
Hitroll 0
HitDice 2d5+1
ManaDice 2d5+120
DamDice 1d6+1
DamType pound
AC 50 50 50 50
Wealth 50
Act npc no_tame stay_area~
Off assist_vnum~
Form edible sentient biped mammal~
Part head arms legs heart brains guts hands feet fingers ear eye~
StartP standing~
DefPos standing~
Size medium~
Sex male~
Material unknown
END

Regarding importing ROM areas, just add the area to the arealist, dawn should do the rest.

I did add an area to the list , booted up fine and the area is there and works

when I type are it shows the area I added but it's colour is different than all the other areas(white instead of blue) whether I am in that zone or not.

And should DoT modify the area at all so that it becomes an "official" Dot Area?

Go into aedit and change the area colour:

While in aedit ->

syntax: colour <colour code>

Type help colour for a list of colour codes.

Dawn imports the rom area format, when the area is resaved it will be saved in Dawn format.
