Unable to connect to "Aetolia", code=10061 (Connection refused)

Error occured during phase: Connecting to world:64.127.116.134, port 23.

I am able to connect with telnet. I've tried connecting with my firewall down and it still didn't work. It could have something to do with my recent browser troubles, only Internet Explorer works. Is it possible that norton is still running in the background without the icon in the tray or the process in the task manager? If so then I should just uninstall norton.. although I hate uninstalling something I still have a subscription for.

So any ideas what's wrong?

Are you trying to connect to Aetolia? Works fine for me in MUSHclient.

aetolia.com port 23

Yeah, I tried to use both "aetolia.com" and its IP, "64.127.116.164" for the TCP/IP Address and I use port 23 but it doesn't work.

If telnet can connect, then a program is blocking MUSHclient from accessing the internet, most likely.

Hmm, I disabled norton a while ago, and it didn't work even after I turned windows firewall off. Is it possible that something besides firewalls is blocking it?
#5
I'm not exactly sure if I connected with telnet, as don't really know what telnet is. I'm assuming the nexus client is telnet? Because that's what I'm connected through right now.

No, telnet is telnet.

Start->Run, type telnet. That is telnet.

Is there a telnet for vista? I says it cannot find it. But anyways I'm still able to play with Nexus... if you call that playing.

Can you connect to other MUDs on port 23?

Just to be sure I know what im doing, the sytax for connecting through telnet is

 o aetolia.com:23

for connecting to aetolia on port 23, right? If so it doesn't work for aetolia, achaea or aardwolf.

No, the colon should be a space.

It had the same results, I hope this isn't a firewall problem because I've had enough of them... If it wasn't for viruses and the such I'd just get rid of it.

See: http://www.gammon.com.au/forum/?id=7794 item 43.

It seems to me that if you can connect via telnet (or Nexus) but not MUSHclient, some firewall program (Windows or some 3rd party) is not permitting the connection.

Sigh, turns out Norton was still blocking programs... even after I disabled it. Well I turned it back on and its working... come to think of it a lot of programs haven't worked since I disabled it, I have a lot of things to go try out :)

I have found that the virus-prevention software can cause more annoyance than the viruses. For example, frequent boxes popping up asking you to send them money. A bit like spam, in a way.

Had one bloody one from nVidea, which was "supposed to" protect my machine better in case I played games online. It also had the effect, when on, of disabling network negotiations for allowing my two systems to talk to them over the router they are both connected to. Took me almost an hour to figure out what the @#$#@$ was going on. Finally turned it off, because I didn't feel like spending another hour trying to find out how to make it work right.

Would be OK, if they all worked the same and supported the same accessibility and management. The problem is that they don't all allow the same management, don't all block things the same way and let you turn those things on/off as easily (if at all in some cases), etc. Its really a fracking pain.
