Allowing others to connect

If they can't connect, then it's probably a firewall or router issue. Do a search (try in the Smaug section) for this.

No, no no no hahahaha well it will be a firewall problem but I know how to fix that, but I dont know what they type in as the hostname to connect.
Depends. From your LAN, use the LAN IP. If not, use the outgoing IP.
one last question... how do I find those? What type of IP do I get if in the command prompt I type IPconfig? Thank you so much for this by the way
To see your outgoing IP, go here:
http://www.ipchicken.com/
Ipconfig shows your LAN IP.

And last annoying question... What am I supposed to do if I'm behind a router? should I do port forwarding? and what port is my mud connected to?
You'll have to check what port the MUD is running on. Should be defined in the source.
If you're behind a router and they can't connect, make sure the port is open, and you may have to do port fowarding too.

source? and how do I check and see if the port is open?
Yes, in the MUD source. I know nothing about PennMUSH though. Try doing a port scan or checking your router config if the port is open.
I dont know how to do that.... thank you anyway. Thank you for everything else you helped me out with!!!

If you have been playing it, you must know what port you have connected to. For PennMUSH it is usually 4201 unless you have changed it.
With a router you need to configure it so that if an incoming call is made to port 4201 (or whatever it is) then that is "forwarded" to whatever your internal IP address is of your PC (eg. 192.168.0.10).
If you don't do that, the router has no idea of which PC serves (ie. is the server for) that port.
Ah thank you. It works great! Thank you to everyone who helped me with This. Happy Holidays everyone!
