When I try to spellcheck after first opening MC, I get this:

---------------------------

---------------------------
Error opening dictionary file C:\Program Files\MUSHclient\spell\userdic.tlx
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

The file is there as the directory is listed. I've tried reinstalling, didn't fix it. Any idea what's wrong? Doubt it's a bug, just an end user problem.

Yes, I can reproduce that. It only seems to happen the first time. Try putting the dictionary in the same directory as the spell check DLL, or failing that the same directory as MUSHclient.exe.

Try playing with the Registry, at key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Gammon Software Solutions\MUSHclient\SSCE

That seems to have the path to the dictionaries in it.

If it matters, the error comes up twice in a row. This is most likely the problem:
---------------------------
Error Copying File or Folder
---------------------------
Cannot copy userdic: Access is denied.

Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected
and that the file is not currently in use.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

It's not in use, MC is closed. Should I try reinstalling again, and making sure that file is deleted?

You could try but I don't know what it thinks it is doing copying the file.
