gcc 2.96 missing terminating ' character

I am using gcc2.96
while using the following st.,
message {OpenPGP secret key ring modification can allow the disclosure of a user's private key}

getting an error shown as below

missing terminating ' character
message {OpenPGP secret key ring modification can allow the disclosure of a user's private key}'

this is happenening even when I use regsub/regexp which contains (')character

can anyone help me
