Borland C++ 5

Hey guys!

My name is Marcus, I'm using Borland c++ 5.0 i recieved this with my Sam's "Teach Yourself C++ in 21 Days" book. Which btw, does not teach you C++ in 21 days if your a total novice. I suggest reading traditional c books, and books on programming principles first. I want to compile Rom2.4 under Borland. I don't know how to though, i guess maybe a project file would help me? I like rom better than I do smaug, but the rom server isn't as flexible as the smaug one is, so im torn between this. anyone have a project file for the Rom24 source?

My advice it to download Cygwin compiler. It is free, and I know ROM compiles under it, subject to some minor changes discussed elsewhere on this forum.

If you want OLC, built-in colour, and more features in general, I would use SMAUG. I have had a few queries from people who want to use ROM, and then spend hours trying to apply patches to add colour, OLC, mob programs, and so on, all of which comes "out of the box" with SMAUG.

You can also compile SMAUG under Cygwin.

Can I use Borland or Microsoft to compile smaug?

I compiled it with Microsoft Visual C++ versions 5 and 6. There is slightly amended source on my ftp server which should compile fine with that (see Downloads link).
