Not sure if this is an XP thing or a MUSHclient thing, but I've only noticed it in MUSHclient so far.

If I try to select a portion of text that is larger than what fits into my window, so that I have to scroll either up or down to get the selection to cover all of the text that I want to cover, the scroll goes into some kind of racer mood and scrolls all the way up or down the output window within seconds, and it can't be stopped.

This makes selecting larger sections of text awkward, I usually have to scroll up to the top of the text and then select from the top and down so that I can trim out just the extra stuff it grabs beneath the text section.

That actually is a Windows problem in general with attempting to scroll while highlighting text, though MC does seem to be more adversely affected by it that some other programs. I get it a lot in Win98 pasting from websites as well when I have to scroll text and unless I really want to do some registry tinkering to find (more likely create) a scroll speed key to slow it down, it's just something we get stuck with compliments of Microsoft :(

You should be able to select a couple of lines at the top, let go of the mouse, click on the scroll bar and move it down to the end of the proposed selection, and then shift-click at the end of the selection to extend the selection to the clicked point. That way you can accurately select a block of text without the dragging procedure.

Thanks, that does work. Do wonder why the scrolling gets all funky, though. :)

I think some programs implement a "slow scroll" area just below the main window, because as PCs have got faster the default scroll was just too fast. However I haven't done that (yet).

"Very smooth scrolling", although annoying, works well if you want to select, because it scrolls really slowly... Maybe there could be a way for MUSHClient to turn it on when a user starts selecting text and turn it off when they're done?
