I have a rather unique problem: People can connect with a client, such as MonkeyTerm which seperates the port, but with telnet or hyperterminal they cannot. Any ideas?

Separates the port? How do you mean? What do they type exactly, into (say) telnet?

In the connect to area:
(IP address) <PORT #>

Example:
123.123.123.12 4000

In a client there is a prompt:
IP: 123.123.123.12 PORT 4000

If using Microsoft's telnet, just type (at a command prompt):

telnet address port

eg. telnet smaug.org 4000

Alternatively, in Microsoft telnet, if you just start it up, go to the Connect menu, select Remote System, and you see a dialog box with a field for the address and one for the port.
